This week I sent off some of our baby alpaca to a new mill I'm trying out for the first time. The mill we had been using had some *issues* that I won't get into… and another mill - 30 minutes from us! - was completely unresponsive to my questions. What a huge turnoff. I have pounds and pounds of alpaca to be processed and I'm offering you business if you will just answer some questions and give me some confidence about sending our precious fiber to you! Eugh.
Anyway, I have a good feeling about the new mill, and I can't wait to get the yarn back! It is of fiber from one of our young males - a first shearing, and is a beautiful charcoal color. I'm having it spun into a 3-ply sportweight. I'm thinking it's going to be gorgeous!
On the baby blanket front….. Well, let me back up. The twins that we now know to be girls, have names now! Elizabeth Ann & Catherine Jayne. Prissy, huh? I can hardly wait to see those two little ladies get grass stains on their knees and rough-house! Nothing better with such regal names!
DH and I were talking about how none of us gets what we *think* we're getting in our kids. I envisioned my daughter in ribbons and bows and the perfectly girly little darling. Now she is petite, but she's somewhat sailor-like in her disposition at times! She loves the Yankees and God help you if you say anything untoward about them, she loves the Syracuse Orangemen - basketball AND football teams, loves to watch boxing on tv (but hates the 'hugging' part) and one of her all time favorite things to do is to watch the World Championship of Poker on ESPN. Now she has her prissy moments too, but she's no softy, this one!
My DH envisioned our son as a football and sporting buddy. Well, he prefers computers and books. He will watch football for the strategic angle (a poker and chess player this one), but other than that - no thanks!
We're feeling pretty confident that with names like that, these twin girls will offer no shortage of shocking moments to their conservative and staid parents!!
But now onto the blankets…. Doing everything in two's is BORING. I'm having a hard time getting through these. I'm almost done with another panel now, and then I can move on to other colors and sections which should help liven things up a bit. I was able to get a good bit done today while on the road to a branch office for the day - no, I was not the one driving, although I do know someone who does that!!
I'm doing them with 5 different lace patterns in different colored panels and seamed together (what was I thinking?? I hate seaming!) and then I-cord all around in a coordinating multi to trim them out. I think they will be beautiful once finished, but I had better get on the stick. Twins tend to come early, and we've already had one scare. I just hope we can keep them in there until I get the blankets done!! (At the pace I'm going, this will be a 15 month pregnancy!)
Got a dual meetup tomorrow - knitters AND spinners. Have to take alot of pictures tomorrow. I will have to include the blanket pieces and show you what I've got so far. Should take pictures of my current UFO's too while I'm at it!
Tata!
