Happy Easter!

Mar 23rd, 2008

One of the awesome things about Easter is that you can get egg dying kits for dirt cheap this afternoon and tomorrow!  We're talking 4/$1.00 or less!!  Do you know how much wool you can dye with that??  For those of you who don't want to deal with or invest in the expensive and more troublesome professional acid dyes, this is a great way to get your creativity moving and do your own colorful wools and yarns!

I found a couple of great instructions for you to get you started.

The first is from Deer Run Sheep Farm.   You can visit Jim & Martha online or at their farm in West Virginia to pick up some beautiful Coopworth for your wooly projects!  Their tutorial is very simple and easy, and tells you how to dye your clean, raw wools with Easter egg dye!

The second is from WoolFestival.com and gives a great little tutorial on several different methods for dyeing yarns with Easter egg dyes.

Both should give you some really great ideas for safe, easy, non-toxic and even kid friendly ways to use Easter egg dyes to color up your wools and yarns!  Have fun!

Now, I said that discounted Easter egg dyes for your wool was one of the awesome things about Easter, but there's something else that's even more awesome…. The very most awesome thing about Easter is what it really means, and that is that we have a way to be free of the not so awesome things of this world, and even the not so awesome things within ourselves through the sacrifice that Christ made on the cross.  Today represents Christ' defeat of death - yes, even death! - through His resurrection.  If even death can be defeated through His power, there is nothing in this world that can't also be overcome through Him.  I won't preach a sermon, but if you happen to want to know more, I'd be glad to tell you more about it and have a conversation with you on the matter.  You know how to reach me.

I hope you all have a great Easter!

I’m back to busy!

Oct 3rd, 2007

Finally, nearly 2 years after the baby was born, I'm getting back to having too many projects in motion again!  I can't ever sit still for long, and once I get going, I'm hard to stop.

I've been spinning on the Chris yarn still, and I'm making good progress on that.  I'm still undecided as to what it's going to be once it's completed, but it's nice taking the time to spin it in a relaxing way and just meditate on life.

Another pair of socks are on the needles, and I'm not quite sure what to think about them. The yarn on the skein looks really cool, but knitted up, I'm not too sure about it.  Combining the yarn with the pattern that I'm using makes them look a lot like dragon feet!  I'm not sure if I love them or hate them…  What do you think?

My newest obsession is Nuno felt, or laminated felt.  I've seen examples for years at the fiber fest, but just before this years GVHG Hemlock Fiber Fest, I started REALLY thinking about them again.  I made a point to seek them out and really take a close look this time, and I am definitely on another tangent!

I've got enough silk for 18 scarves and then a yard or so to do whatever with, and I've been dyeing the silk and wool to match for the past few weekends.  I've got my olive oil soap all shredded, dissolved and ready to go, and a bamboo blind to use for rolling.  I had planned to start actually putting them together last weekend, but got intimidated and put it off.  I've read a bit more, and have been mentally preparing myself, and I think this weekend I'm finally going to give it a go!

Here are some of the bits I've got ready to felt with, although the colors don't show up so hot in this pic.  I've got a celadon set for a monochromatic scarf, a purple silk with variegated lavender and purple wool, a hot pink that is going to have white flowers on it, and a gold with muted blue, green and rose colors to go on it.  I've got LOTS more too, as I've dyed all 18 scarf pieces already!  I can't wait to complete one and show you the finished result!  I'm still terrified by it though!

Great Stuff on eBay & my Fire Mo

Mar 22nd, 2005

For the next couple of weeks, I’m going to be listing on eBay the beautiful orange and purple mohair locks you’ve seen here AND some baby alpaca fiber too!

Go here to see what’s currently live: Fiber-Fancies eBay Auctions.  Right now, I’m spinning up the bit of purple that I saved for myself, so I don’t have it to show just yet, but take a look at how the Fire Mo looks spun up:

Before    After

I have two skeins available in the store right now and probably enough to spin up one more 2 oz skein! Gorgeous, huh?
