The End (of Summer) is Near

Aug 25th, 2008

I can't believe that another summer is coming to an end already.  It just seemed to fly by, and it only started yesterday!!  Before the summer was out, and the family gets even bigger and more unwieldy to travel with, we decided to make a trip out to see Grandma.  Grandma is 89.5 years young, and awesome.  Making it even more fun was that her sister was visiting as well, and when those two get together…. well, it's just like they are teenagers again (or still).

While we were there, Grandma promised me some of her antiques that I love when she moves out of her house someday.  Now, I would never just come out and ask for anything, but I was delighted to hear of the things that she specifically wanted us to have, and while I don't want her to get to a place where she can't live alone anymore, it was pretty exciting!

Remember the rocking chair I put a seat bottom in back in January?  That was her mother's chair that was made in a local woodworking and furniture place long since gone. I love that sort of family and local history.  Antiques may be worth $$$ to some, but for me, no amount of money can be worth as much as the family history in each piece, and the times shared by family members together with them.  I love being able to rock my kids in that chair and remind them that their great-great-grandmother once rocked their great-grandmother in it, and that she in turn rocked their grandmother in it as well.  Beautiful.  I'm so thrilled, and pretty honored as well that she chose us for those pieces.

Wild and Wooly

Aug 18th, 2008

We took Vin for his first trip to the zoo this Saturday!  He loves animals and all things animal related, so we knew he would love it!  To make it even more exciting, it was elephant day, and I love elephants, so that was awesome.  We got totally poured on near the end of our trip, but Vin had a fabulous time, and many good memories were made.

I’m bad at meet-ups

Aug 11th, 2008

This past Saturday, I finally made it to a meet-up again after nearly 3 years!! I had been going really regularly until Vince was born, and then after he came along, it was just impossible to get out and since I work out of the home, I didn't want to lose any time with him, or pawn him off on someone else.  By the time he was big enough that I felt ok about being gone a couple of hours on Saturday mornings, his sister started soccer which either made it impossible to go because of the games, or because of nap-times or because of something.  Always something. So, it was really great to be able to get together with the local gals again for some knitting and coffee - or a smoothie for me, since I gave up the caffeine when I got pregnant.

With all of our various family trips this summer, and the gardening work outside, I hadn't had much time to work on the baby socks, so I took those along to work on.  I've got 5 done so far, and enough yarn to do 5 more!  I need to get to work though.  Life is so busy it's hard to find time to get anything done and I definitely want these finished before the wee one arrives!
