The End (of Summer) is Near
I can't believe that another summer is coming to an end already. It just seemed to fly by, and it only started yesterday!! Before the summer was out, and the family gets even bigger and more unwieldy to travel with, we decided to make a trip out to see Grandma. Grandma is 89.5 years young, and awesome. Making it even more fun was that her sister was visiting as well, and when those two get together…. well, it's just like they are teenagers again (or still).
While we were there, Grandma promised me some of her antiques that I love when she moves out of her house someday. Now, I would never just come out and ask for anything, but I was delighted to hear of the things that she specifically wanted us to have, and while I don't want her to get to a place where she can't live alone anymore, it was pretty exciting!
Remember the rocking chair I put a seat bottom in back in January? That was her mother's chair that was made in a local woodworking and furniture place long since gone. I love that sort of family and local history. Antiques may be worth $$$ to some, but for me, no amount of money can be worth as much as the family history in each piece, and the times shared by family members together with them. I love being able to rock my kids in that chair and remind them that their great-great-grandmother once rocked their great-grandmother in it, and that she in turn rocked their grandmother in it as well. Beautiful. I'm so thrilled, and pretty honored as well that she chose us for those pieces.
